Artist of the Week: Lidia Wylangowska

July 10, 2011

Blue by Lidia Wylangowska, 2011, Oils on wood, 36” x 44”

I discovered local Illinois artist Lidia Wylangowska last Saturday at the Gold Coast Art Fair.  She specializes in beautiful paintings of people that have deeper meanings rooted in the events of her life, remembrances of childhood fairy tales, emotions and philosophies.   Each work is as personal as it is aesthetic.  I am hard pressed to think of another artist that displays such joy in the human form.

Her current works have a muted color palette with blue and yellow ochre as the focal colors.  Older works have a fuller range of colors.  The surface of the works are gorgeous with subtle textures that emulates, or is, plaster in some areas making the paintings seem like an old fresco that was discovered in amazing condition.  The fresco-like textures add complexity to the wonderfully handled oils.

Lidia Wylankowska represents herself and can be reached by cellular at 847.226.3887.  I was not able to find images on the website listed on her business card which seems to be a free template-based site hosted by an aggressive marketing entity.  I included more images of her work below.
