Nature Photos From a Hiking Trip

I went hiking late September which was a good time to try out some aperture priority shots in the woods. These shots are from Marengo Ridge in McHenry County, Illinois. I ran into a patch of poison ivy going after one shot but thankfully did not get infected by it. It’s pretty inconsiderate of nature preserves to also preserve poison ivy. I won’t complain if that goes extinct and please do not tell me if it has a purpose in the larger biosphere.

trees sky

It was perfect summer weather day.

This forest was rich in weird fungus. I have no idea what they are, just nature’s fungal sculptures.

weird mini mushrooms sept 2015

Not a flash photograph, just a dark corner and about f4.5 aperture. Worse,I did not find any faeries.

giant puffball

Bowling ball sized “puff ball” mushroom.

Some pretty asters in a restored prairie.

dead tree

Every once in a while, you find that very sculptural dead tree.

The wind kept whipping the flower around so this is the best I could do for this monarch butterfly. All the other photos came out as monarch blurs.
