Antique Post Cards, Group 8

Here are a few antique post cards and some that are newer, probably 1960s – 1970s era but had interesting art on them.  I try to stay in my range of collecting 1950 and prior, these are exceptions which I don’t particularly plan on making more.  With collecting anything, you need to have boundaries and guidelines to follow so you don’t drag everything you come across home.

79 antique post card Valentine

Publisher unknown, “serie 1420”, printed in Germany. Raised /embossed image with gold metallic ink.  Mailed but no date stamp, so it went in an envelope.

Here are two very old lithographic colored photographs:

80 antique post card 1910 Washington DC

Mailed, postmarked 10/16/1910 from Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

81 antique post card 1913

Postmarked Milwaukee, Wisconsin 8/18/1913, published by E. C. Kropp Co. in Milwaukee with a business and address given as New Shanghai Mandarin Restaurant, Toy Building, 172-174 Second Streets, Milwaukee.  I’ll have an order of moo shu pork and a funky dragon bracket to go, please!

82 antique post card 1915

Gibson Art Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. Postmarked 7/13/1913 from Gary, Indiana.  Sent to Mrs. Phearson in Rockford, Illinois. It seems to be a generic gag post card that could be picked up at shops.  I’m amazed anyone ever want to travel to Gary in the first place. Maybe Scary, Indiana was nicer in 1913.

84 antique post card 1943

Another WWII message home to Mrs. Elizabth Diedrich of New Diggings, Wisconsin. Postmarked Tucson, Arizona 5/14/1943.

Sgt. John J. Diedrich 444th Bomb Grp Davis Monthan Field Tucson Ariz   Mother & Dad, Just about to Tucson now, about 40 miles out right now.  This has really been along trip about four thousand miles since we left Sioux Falls. (Don’t send me any money until I write and say I need it.  Cashed bond in at LA so have money Love John

Here are a few more contemporary post cards from about the 1960s – 1970s.

Postcard NYC 1961 reverse

Postcard Bora Yovanovich Chicago painting

Not mailed, Chicago postcard published by Borart & Design, Bora Yovanovich.  I found a Chicago Tribune obituary for him:

Bora Yovanovich, 70, of Chicago, February 1, 2004, beloved husband of Mila; loving father of Michael. Passed away and was returned to God’s embrace after a long struggle with diabetes. He was an artist and architectural designer, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Serbia. Funeral services and interment were private. A private memorial will be held at his home where he eagerly anticipated returning from hospitalization to be with his family. Arrangements by Muzyka & Son Funeral Home.
