Artist of the Week: Fujinuma Noboru

Fujinuma Noboru had a background as an engineer and a photographer; he took an interest in traditional Japanese art forms after returning from a trip to Paris in 1974.  He spent several years apprenticed to a master basket maker and honed his skills in bamboo.  Fujinuma Noboru is a part of a lineage of artists that pass skills on from one generation to the next.

I shot some views of his work on display at MAIC in November 2011 in the video below.  These works were from the artist’s personal collection and fell between 1979 and 2007.
