Basic Information: Summer Still Life Paintings

August 16, 2011

Pears, oil on wood, by Shellie Lewis

Some days I buy the fruit and eat the fruit.  Some days I buy the fruit, realize it’s particularly beautiful, paint the fruit, then eat the fruit. 🙂

One of the hardest things to do as a painter is to think of what to paint.  If you are stuck for an idea or need to practice your realism skills, head to the local grocer or farmer’s market for an abundance of subject material.  It’s late summer now and a whole assortment of fruits and vegetables are in their peak.  I think this as a dual use purchase: still life now, vitamins later.
