I think of Byron Kim as a painter that does abstracted work with its inspiration taken directly from life.  For me, his art is about seeing – really seeing- what is in front you.  Too often, we rush through our days and barely give anything more than a rapid glance.  Synedoche is his best known work explained in this short two minute interview:
