Rare Vasily Kandinsky Watercolour

December 29, 2010

Untitled by Vasily Kandinsky, watercolor, 1915

Vasily Kandinsky had relocated to Moscow due to conflicts of World War I in 1914.  Due to having a small space in which to work and very little money, he painted with watercolors at this time.  This painting is small, approximately 9” x  12” [23 x 30.5 cm] and the colors are wonderful and vibrant.  It is very much in his style of abstraction.  I have never seen a Kandinsky watercolor before, and this was a wonderful opportunity to see his work in a new medium.
