“Reclining Nude (Sleeping Woman)” – Pablo Picasso

November 5, 2010

“Reclining Nude (Sleeping Woman)” – Pablo Picasso, from September 5, 1969

Graphite on cream wove paper

This drawing is on display with a diverse collection of other drawings, prints and small paintings from the 15th century to contemporary living artists.  The “Gray Collection: Seven Centuries of Art” will be on display at the Museum of the Art Institute Chicago through January 2, 2010.  There were many historic and recognizable names: a small painting by Lucien Freud, a drawing and scale model from Claes Oldenburg, a great watercolor by Vasily Kandinsky, some Matisse drawings, a drawing by Seurat and other Impressionists.  There is so much more; if you are interested in drawings and smaller works that span a wide range of Western art history, this show has so many works in a small intimate gallery.
