Basic Information: Mahlstick

This is an easy tool used to steady your hand.  It takes very little to make one; one trip to the hardware store should do.

I made mine with a dowel rod and wrapped the end with layers of duct tape so it is easier to grip.  The thickness of the dowel rod is up to you.  I like a nice oak dowel rod myself and have one of those.  The idea is to not run your hand through wet paint, use the mahlstick to steady your hand by holding one end of the stick and propping the other on a dry edge of the canvas or your easel like this:
