Photocopied Images as Collage
Small Landscape With Cut Trees by Dean Byington [American, b. 1958], collage of photocopies, cut-and-tipped to white paper, 2005.
This amazing work is on display at the Art Institute in the Rarely Seen Contemporary Works on Paper exhibit. The artist took botanical drawings and shrank them to the tiniest size; the whole work is around 4″ x 7″. A cluster of plants is the size of my smallest finger nail. The cut out plants are glued at the bottom and the whole piece has texture as each plant seems to be growing up and outward. The photograph I took does not even begin to do this justice.
